HC Deb 09 February 1939 vol 343 cc1134-5W
Mr. Bartlett

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether pending the presentation of his long-term policy for the reorganisation of agriculture, he is prepared to remove the restriction which excludes from the barley subsidy any farmer who also happens to have land under wheat?

Sir B. Dorman-Smith

The provision to which the hon. Member refers applies to those farmers who elect to receive wheat deficiency payments. The question whether this provision, which was an important feature of Part 11 of the Agriculture Act, 1937, should be modified, is one which could not appropriately be considered apart from the general review which is now taking place.
