§ Mr. E. BrownOn 9th December, 1939, 987 disabled ex-service men were registered as unemployed in the area covered by the Manchester King's Roll Committee, a decrease of 317 since 9th January last. The committee did not meet during 1938 and, so far, one meeting has been held this year at which three members were present in addition to the chairman and secretary. I understand that certain proposals were to be considered at a meeting arranged for September last which was, however, postponed owing to the outbreak of war. The question of holding this meeting at an early date is now under consideration. I would, however, draw the attention of my hon. Friend to the fact that under the standing arrangements, applications for enrolment and renewal may be dealt with by the exchange manager by arrangement with the chairman, subject to confirmation by the committee. The work of placing disabled ex-service men is receiving the constant attention of the local office.
