HC Deb 09 February 1938 vol 331 cc1058-9W
Mr. Kirkwood

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he has considered the representations from Glasgow Corporation and other local authorities and organisations suggesting that the Rent Restrictions Acts should be amended so that the permitted increase of 47½ per cent. in the post-war rents of pre-war houses might be reduced by 25 per cent.; and what action he intends to take to give effect to these representations?

Mr. Elliot

I have received no representations to the effect suggested in the first part of the question. As regards the second part, the whole question of rent restriction is, as the hon. Member is aware, at present under consideration in the light of the report of the Interdepartmental Committee which inquired into it.
