§ Mr. EdenThough appeals have been addressed on more than one occasion to the contending Spanish parties to respect the lives of non-combatants, no special representations have been made on the subject of religious communities. The welfare of these communities is, however, a matter in which His Majesty's Government are deeply interested, and I would mention in this connection that His Majesty's consular officers have been able during recent months to facilitate the evacuation of a considerable number of nuns, principally from Madrid and Barcelona.
