HC Deb 03 November 1937 vol 328 cc927-8W
Mr. R. Gibson

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether, with reference to the sales of milk for manufactures other than fresh cream, butter, and cheese, which other sales had, between August, 1936, and August, 1937, increased from 12.12 per cent. to 17.04 per cent. of the total milk sales for manufacturing purposes, he will state what are the chief of these other manufactures; and what were the quantities of milk taken for each during each of the above months?

Mr. Elliot

The milk in question is used for manufacture into condensed milk, tinned cream, whole milk powder and margarine. I regret, however, that I have not the information desired as to the actual quantities used for each of these purposes, and I understand that for trade reasons it would be difficult to publish the specific figures. I should be glad, however, to discuss the matter further with the hon. and learned Member if he desires.
