MacMillanasked the Secretary of State for Scotland, whether he will take into consideration the need for veterinary surgeons and technical advice in breeding and improving livestock in the Western Isles; whether he will take special measures in this connection; and what these steps are likely to be?
§ Mr. ElliotTechnical advice in the breeding and improvement of livestock is provided, without charge, by the staffs of the Agricultural Colleges in Scotland and their free services will continue to be available for the purpose. As regards the treatment of sick animals, no proposals designed to increase the number of veterinary surgeons in private practice in the Western Islands are at present in contemplation.
