HC Deb 23 December 1937 vol 330 c2191W
Mr. A. Henderson

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether the territory adjacent to the Crown Colony of Hong Kong, which is held by His Majesty's Government under lease from the central Chinese government, is garrisoned by British troops; and what instructions have been given to the officers commanding with the object of preventing the use of such territory by any Japanese forces invading any other adjacent Chinese territory?

Mr. Hore-Belisha

I have been asked to reply. The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative, but I should explain that the leased territory is properly to be regarded as an integral part of the Colony for the period of the lease. The answer to the second part is that no special instructions have been given with the object mentioned.
