§ Mr. HORE-BELISHAA census of the staff employed by the railway companies is taken annually for a week in March and details are published in the Railway Companies' (Staff) Return. The numbers of persons employed by the railway companies (including persons employed in their ancillary businesses) during March of 1931, 1932 and 1933 were respectively 615,592, 597,971 and 566,300.
