HC Deb 04 December 1933 vol 283 cc1306-7W
Mr. H. STEWART

asked the Minister of Agriculture what was the estimated consumption of white fish and herrings, respectively, in Great Britain in each of the years 1923, 1931, 1932 and the first nine months of 1933?

Mr. ELLIOT

The following statement gives the information desired in respect of the years 1923, 1931 and 1932. I regret that the necessary details to enable me to furnish an estimate of consumption for the first nine months of 1933 are not yet available.

Estimated consumption of white fish and herrings, respectively, in Great Britain in each of the years 1923, 1931 and 1932.
Estimated Consumption.
Year. White Fish. Cwt.
1923 11,518,000
1931 15,089,000
1932 14,919,000
Herrings. Cwt.
1923 2,297,000
1931 1,621,000
1932 1,525,000

(The estimated consumption in each year is arrived at by subtracting the aggregate of exports and re-exports from the aggregate of landings and imports. The figures are in all cases bulk figures. It is impracticable to make allowance for such matters as, e.g., loss of weight through processes preceding export.)
