HC Deb 14 April 1932 vol 264 cc1009-10W
Mr. LOGAN

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury the annual amount of the Government grant made to the Armstrong College, Newcastle-on-Tyne; and whether he proposes to review the contribution made by the Government to the college?

Major ELLIOT

The annual Treasury grant paid to Armstrong College on the recommendation of the University Grants Committee is £44,500. During 1930–31 the following sums were also received from other Government Departments:

£
Board of Education (under Regulations for Further Education for School of Art) 2,400
Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries 9,670
Forestry Commission 100
£12,170

The Treasury grants to university institutions are periodically reviewed, and in the absence of necessity for earlier review the next review will be in 1935.
