HC Deb 10 December 1931 vol 260 c2065W
Mr. D. GRAHAM

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he will consider taking steps to safeguard persons who have purchased houses and furniture on the hire-purchase system and are now in difficulties owing to cuts in salaries and increased Income Tax, in view of the fact that similar steps have been taken by the naval authorities to safeguard the interests of members of the Navy?

Mr. HORE-BELISHA

I understand that in the case of the naval personnel certain firms engaged in selling goods under hire-purchase agreements have expressed their willingness to meet the altered circumstances of those with whom they have contracts, and I hope that this example will be followed in other cases.
