HC Deb 03 December 1931 vol 260 c1280W
Mr. de ROTHSCHILD

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether, in view of the hardship which is being caused in many quarters, he will receive a deputation from the East Anglian counties of those affected by the provision of the Land Drainage Act, 1930, which establishes the collection of drainage rates on a basis of annual value instead of an acreage basis?

Sir J. GILMOUR

As I indicated in the answer given to the Noble Lord the Member for Peterborough (Lo Burghley) on 23rd November, I am fully aware of the difficulties referred to by my hon. Friend. It would only be possible to adjust the matter by an amendment of the Land Drainage Act, 1930, and in these circumstances I do not think that at the present time any useful purpose would be served by my receiving a deputation as suggested.
