HC Deb 12 November 1929 vol 231 cc1767-8W
Mr. W. BENNETT

asked the Post master-General whether his attention has been called to the sentence at the Old Bailey on an auxiliary postman for theft and to the low wage of £1 13s. 4d. a week that this man was receiving; and whether it is possible to find full-time established positions for many of these men instead of the recent policy of increasing the number of auxiliary postmen?

Mr. LEES-SMITH

My attention has been drawn to the case in question. I would refer the hon. Member to my reply on the 5th instant to the hon. Member for South Hammersmith (Mr. Chater) that the conditions of employment of auxiliary postmen are under my consideration, but that I am not at present in a position to make any statement.
