HC Deb 07 November 1929 vol 231 c1278W
Captain MARGESSON

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer the cost of the social services, per head of the population, in Great Britain, France, Germany, Italy, and the United States of America, at the present time; and what will be the estimated cost of these services, per head of the population, in Great Britain when the Widows', Orphans' and Old Age Contributory Pensions Bill comes into operation?

Mr. SNOWDEN

I regret that the in formation desired in regard to the foreign countries named is not available. With regard to this country the usual return of the cost of social services will be ready for publication in a few weeks. Full estimates of the cost of the Widows', Orphans' and Old Age Contributory Pensions Bill were given in the financial memorandum which accompanied the Bill.
