HC Deb 07 February 1929 vol 224 c1955W
Mr. HORE-BELISHA

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty what is the position with regard to the 1928 shipbuilding programme, specifying where the two cruisers, one submarine depot ship, one flotilla leader, eight destroyers, six submarines, one river gunboat, and four sloops have been or are to be laid down?

Mr. BRIDGEMAN

As stated in reply to the hon. Member's question on 13th December last, the provision in the Estimates of 1928 is on the basis of ordering the ships in February and March of this year, and the arrangements are proceeding. The allocation of the programme is:

Portsmouth Dockyard:

1 cruiser.

Devonport Dockyard:

1 cruiser and 2 sloops.

Chatham Dockyard:

1 submarine and 1 submarine depot ship, the remaining ships to be built by contract.
