HC Deb 24 May 1928 vol 217 cc2067-8W
Mr. KIRKWOOD

asked the Under-Secretary of State for India whether he is aware that a contract for 48 main-line locomotives for the Indian State Rail- ways has been placed with Continental firms; and whether any fair wage conditions clause was imposed upon the Continental manufacturers?

Earl WINTERTON

No contract for 48 locomotives for Indian State Railways has recently been placed by the High Commissioner for India. Tenders have, however, been called for a large number of locomotives and boilers and are at present being considered by the High Commissioner but no orders have so far been placed. The form of contract used by the High Commissioner always contains a fair wage clause.
