HC Deb 21 June 1928 vol 218 c1770W
Mr. HORE-BELISHA

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether he can see his way when discharges are contemplated from Devonport Dockyard to consult with the Minister of Labour with a view to offering alternative work, if necessary, in other towns to the men displaced?

Lieut.-Colonel HEADLAM

There are standing instructions that the local officers of the Ministry of Labour are to be informed when discharges are being made, and they no doubt take whatever steps are possible to suggest alternative employment to the men discharged.
