HC Deb 04 April 1928 vol 215 c1975W
Mr. HORE-BELISHA

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether, seeing that divers' attendants at Devonport dockyard, who receive less than 37s. a week, are granted a special rate of 3d. an hour, whereas attendants who receive more than 37s. a week do not, and that, as a result, there are two scales of pay for the same work with the same risk, he will consider making the special grant of 3d. an hour to all divers' attendants irrespective of the rate of wages?

Lieut.-Colonel HEADLAM

The extra payment of the 3d. an hour, allowed for men on rates of wages up to 37s. a week, is not justified for men on the higher rates who may be employed on the same duty. The answer is, therefore, in the negative.
