asked the First Lord of the Admiralty how much money it is estimated to expend on hulls and machinery in ships during the current financial year; and of this sum how much will go to private yards and how much to the Royal yards?

The total sum included in the Navy Estimates for current financial year for expenditure on hulls and machinery in ships (including armour and gun mountings) is £14,749,137. Of this total the sum which is included for contract work is £8,379,437, and for dockyard labour (direct charges only) the sum included is £4,525,700: while a sum of £1,844,000 is provided for the supply of materials to be used in the dockyard work.
