§ Mr. SPOORasked the Under-Secretary of State for India whether he can state the policy of the Government of India with regard to the development of civil aviation in India; whether steps are being taken to ensure that aerial transport does not fall into the hands of foreign interests; and whether facilities are being afforded to Indians for training as pilots, mechanics, etc.?
§ Earl WINTERTONThe policy of the Government of India with regard to the development of civil aviation is described in a memorandum published last year, of which I am having a copy sent to the hon. Member. Since then a Director of Civil Aviation in India has been appointed, and this officer is actively engaged in preliminary work with a view to the formulation of definite schemes. This policy aims essentially at the objects stated by the hon. Member.
