§ Mr. G. HALLasked the Under-Secretary of State for India why the request for a labour representative to be appointed to the inquiry committee to investigate the causes of the railway workshop troubles at Kharagpur, on the Bengal Nagpur Railway, has not been complied with?
§ Earl WINTERTONI am not aware that any request was made that a labour representative should be appointed to take part in the inquiry, to which I presume the hon. Member refers, instituted by the Agent of the Bengal Nagpur 1425W Railway to investigate cases of individual hardship that might have been caused by the recent reductions of staff. This inquiry was a departmental one, but the Agent asked the Government of India to depute a Government officer to take part in it, and this has been done. It has been agreed that the men may appoint their own representatives to state their case.
