HC Deb 04 February 1926 vol 191 c358W
Brigadier-General CLIFTON BROWN

asked the Minister of Transport whether, in view of the fact that a large proportion of the mileage of the motor vehicles used for local services is done on unclassified roads, and of the heavy taxes paid in respect of those vehicles and carried to the Road Fund, he will case the burden on the ratepayer by arranging that where the local highway rate reaches 28. or 2s. 3d. in the £ any further expenditure will be a charge on the Road Fund?

Lieut-Colonel MOORE-BRABAZON

While I have every sympathy with my hon. and gallant Friend, and have allocated, as he is aware, £750,000 from the Road Fund for the assistance of rural roads, I do not think it would be possible to carry out the suggestion made in this question.
