HC Deb 31 July 1924 vol 176 cc2258-9W
Major HORE-BELISHA

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will state the number of Members who have signified their intention not to avail themselves of the free railway passes, the number of Members who have so far made no application for these passes, and the sum of money which the Treasury will be spared on the assumption that those in the latter category do not apply for the passes in question?

Mr. GRAHAM

So far as I am aware, no Member has formally signified his intention not to avail himself of the facilities for free railway travelling. The number of 'Members who applied for warrants up to 17th July was 382, so that on a full membership of 615 the number of Members who had not applied was 233. As the extent to which the Members who have not yet applied for warrants would be likely to use them is not known, it is not possible to say what amount is being saved.
