HC Deb 24 June 1913 vol 54 cc975-6W
Mr. HUNT

asked the Secretary of State for War if he will give the names of the members of the Sub-Committee of Imperial Defence which is now sitting for the purpose of giving special consideration to the question of the defence of this country?

The PRIME MINISTER

I would refer the hon. Member to the reply which I gave on this subject on 1st April last to the hon. Baronet the Member for West Marylebone. Since that date Field-Marshal Lord Nicholson has been invited and has consented to take a seat on the Sub- Committee.

Mr. HUNT

asked the Secretary of State for War what is the estimated cost of the additions now contemplated to the military forces of Russia, France, Germany, Austria-Hungary, Holland, Belgium, Spain, and Italy; and, if the figures are available, can they be given for each country separately?

Colonel SEELY

The approximate figures are as follows:—

Non-recurring expenditure 22,600,000

No figures are available for Russia, Austria-Hungary, Belgium, or Spain. In the case of Italy there will be a decrease in expenditure.
