asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies, if he will give the figures of the total exports of manufactures and produce for the Union of South Africa in the last completed year, also to South Africa for the years 1906, 1900, and 1895?

My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for the Colonies has asked me to answer this question. The following statement gives the information asked for by the hon. Member. I have thought it desirable to add particulars for each of the intermediate years:—

* The value of the bulk of the exports to the Transvaal and Orange River Colony in the years 1895 to 1903 is included in the figures given for the Cape of Good Hope and Natal. Information as to consignments to the two former States through Portuguese East Africa in those years is not available, but in 1904 it amounted to £486,000.
