HC Deb 20 April 1910 vol 16 cc2279-80W
Mr. WEDGWOOD

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he is aware that the Peruvian Amazon Company now definitely decline to entertain the proposal to send out a commission to inquire into the alleged cruelties on the Putumayo, on the ground that this would cast an undue reflection on the Government of Peru; and whether, under these circumstances, he will take steps to ascertain from the Peruvian Government the result of the inquiry which they are understood to have instituted into these allegations, and what measures they propose to adopt in the matter?

Mr. McKINNON WOOD

The company have ignored the suggestion to send a commission, and the question of approaching the Peruvian Government on the subject is under consideration.
