HL Deb 18 June 1991 vol 530 c84

59 Clause 66, page 38, line 27, at end insert: '(4A) The permanent reinstatement of the street shall include, in particular, the reinstatement of features designed to assist people with a disability.'.

Lord Brabazon of Tara

My Lords, I beg to move that the House do agree with the Commons in their Amendment No. 59. I shall speak also to Amendments Nos. 100, 123 and 161.

These amendments fulfil a commitment I gave to the House at Report stage in response to concerns raised by my noble friend Lord Swinfen. Amendment No. 59 requires undertakers carrying out street works to ensure that any special features designed to assist blind and disabled people which are disturbed by the works are properly reinstated. Amendment No. 100 is a consequential amendment to the index of defined expressions. Amendments Nos. 123 and 161 do the same for Scotland.

Moved, That the House do agree with the Commons in their Amendment No. 59.—(Lord Brabazon of Tara.)

Lord Swinfen

My Lords, perhaps I may take this opportunity to thank my noble friend and his right honourable and honourable colleagues in another place for bringing forward these amendments. They will make life not only easier but safer for people with disabilities.

On Question, Motion agreed to.
