HL Deb 18 October 1990 vol 522 cc1109-10

1 Clause 1, page 1, line 16, leave out from 'in vitro' to second 'and' in line 17 and insert '(in their application to those where fertilisation is complete) are to those where fertilisation began outside the human body whether or not it was completed there'.

The Lord Chancellor

My Lords, I beg to move that the House do agree with the Commons in their Amendment No. 1. This is a technical amendment and follows the amendment which I moved to take account of a point that my noble friend Lady Elles wished to be covered in the Bill. She wanted control to go right to the earliest stage of the formation of the fetus and include the egg. In the amendment we make suitable drafting adjustments to take account of that in certain passages of the Bill where the full idea would not apply.

Moved, That the House do agree with the Commons in their Amendment No. 1.—(The Lord Chancellor.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.
