HL Deb 29 June 1972 vol 332 cc985-6

3.16 p.m.

LORD STRABOLGI

My Lords, I beg leave to ask the Question which stands in my name on the Order Paper.

The Question was as follows:

To ask Her Majesty's Government whether they are aware that the Hudson Memorial Garden in Hyde Park is in a neglected state; and what action is being taken to rectify this.

LORD MOWBRAY AND STOURTON

Yes, my Lords. The Government are aware of the present condition of the Hudson Memorial Garden. Remedial work, concerned mainly with leakage from the pools, has now been completed and I am glad to say that the Garden will be restored again within the next few days.

LORD STRABOLGI

My Lords, I thank the noble Lord for that reply. Is he aware that since this Question was tabled much work has been done, including the cutting of the grass? Why is it always necessary for a Parliamentary Question to be put down every year for this place to be kept in a proper state?

LORD MOWBRAY AND STOURTON

My Lords, with respect to the noble Lord, I do not think that it was his Question that caused the work to be done. There had been many complaints and the work had already been started. The fact that this happened at the time of his Question being tabled was a happy coincidence.
