HL Deb 03 July 1968 vol 294 c316

2.37 p.m.

LORD VIVIAN

My Lords, I beg leave to ask the Question which stands in my name on the Order Paper.

[The Question was as follows:

To ask Her Majesty's Government what is the position regarding a refund from British Railways to those people who were made to pay extra on their day return tickets when, through no fault of their own and due to the railway "Go-Slow", they had to make their return journey on the day following that on which the ticket was issued.]

THE PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY, MINISTRY OF PUBLIC BUILDING AND WORKS (LORD WINTERBOTTOM)

My Lords, this is a matter for the discretion of the Railways Board. I am sure they would consider sympathetically any claim for refund from passengers who have been unavoidably put to additional expense in this way.

LORD VIVIAN

My Lords, while thanking the noble Lord for his Answer, may I ask him whether he is aware that this has not happened in all cases? In order not to take up the valuable time of your Lordships, may I ask whether the noble Lord will allow me to present some instances to him, personally, at his convenience?

LORD WINTERBOTTOM

Yes, my Lords.
