HL Deb 27 July 1967 vol 285 c1114

11.36 a.m.

LORD GRANVILLE-WEST

My Lords, with permission I beg leave to ask, on behalf of my noble friend Lord Brockway, the Question standing in his name on the Order Paper.

[The Question was as follows:

To ask Her Majesty's Government when the Defence Ministry will reach a decision on the recommendations made by the Lord Chancellor's Committee on the Age of Majority so far as they refer to the service of minors in the Armed Forces.]

THE MINISTER WITHOUT PORTFOLIO (LORD SHACKLETON)

My Lords, as your Lordships are aware my honourable friend the Minister of Defence for Administration is examining the question of boys' service in the Armed Forces. He will of course take into account the report of the Committee on the Age of Majority which he has only recently received. I am unable to forecast when my honourable friend will announce a decision, but I know that he will do so as soon as possible.

LORD GRANVILLE-WEST

My Lords, may I, on behalf of my noble friend, thank the noble Lord for his Answer.
