HL Deb 05 July 1963 vol 251 cc1098-100

11.41 a.m.

Order of the Day for the House to be put into Committee read.

Moved, That the House do now resolve itself into Committee.—(Lord Brabazon of Tara.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.

House in Committee accordingly.

[The Lord MERTHYR in the Chair.]

Clause 1 [Replacement of appointed days for dog racing lost on account of weather conditions, etc.]:

LORD BRABAZON OF TARA

apologise to your Lordships for the alarming list of Amendments to this small Bill which has come from another place, but I assure your Lordships that there is nothing in them. They all arise from the fact that the original Bill in another place was framed before Parliament had passed the Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Act, 1963, in which a great many phrases were changed; for example, "appointed days" became "betting days". That is the reason for this long list of Amendments: there is nothing in them; they are only drafting. There is just one point on Amendment No. 12 that I should mention, but the rest of the Amendments are purely drafting. Is it in order if I move them altogether?

THE CHAIRMAN OF COMMITTEES

I will ask the Committee whether they are agreeable to the Amendments being moved en bloc, and if noble Lords are agreeable, I will put Amendments 1 to 19 inclusive.

LORD BRABAZON OF TARA

I beg to move.
