HL Deb 27 June 1961 vol 232 c934
EARL HOWE

My Lords, I beg leave to ask the Question which stands in my name on the Order Paper.

[The Question was as follows:

To ask Her Majesty's Government whether they are aware of the unofficial strikes which have brought the construction of the Early Warning Station at Fylingdales Moor to a standstill, and whether any action is proposed to deal with the situation which is described as being desperately serious.]

THE FIRST LORD OF THE ADMIRALTY (LORD CARRINGTON)

My Lords, the Government are aware of the labour difficulties which have arisen from time to time at Fylingdales Moor. The most recent was an unofficial strike of some 60 steel erectors which began on Monday, June 19 and ended on Wednesday, June 21. These unofficial stoppages of work are most regrettable. However, provided that there is no further undue delay, the buildings will be ready to receive their equipment when it arrives.

LORD OGMORE

My Lords, may I ask when the expected equipment will arrive?

LORD CARRINGTON

My Lords, no date has been given for the equipment because it is not in the public interest to say when this will be ready for operation.
