HL Deb 04 July 1961 vol 232 cc1257-8
BARONESS WOOTTON OF ABINGER

My Lords, I beg leave to ask the first Question which stands in my name on the Order Paper.

[The Question was as follows:

To ask Her Majesty's Government if they will give for each hospital region (i) the number of persons suffering from psychopathic disorder who have been admitted to hospital or received into guardianship under Part IV of the Mental Health Act, 1959 and (ii) the number of persons suffering from psychopathic disorder who are subject to hospital or guardianship orders made by the Courts under Part V of the Mental Health Act, 1959.]

LORD NEWTON

My Lords, I regret that only the figures for November and December, 1960 are available. With the noble Lady's permission, I will circulate these in the OFFICIAL REPORT. The totals for England and Wales for the two months are: hospital admissions under Part IV of the Act, 38; and hospital orders under Part V of the Act, 16. No persons suffering from psychopathic disorder were received into guardianship during the period in question.

BARONESS WOOTTON OF ABINGER

My Lords, I am much obliged to the noble Lord for his Answer, and the more so as this Question was set down at rather short notice. Could the noble Lord tell us how soon we may expect to get figures covering the first six months of the operation of the Act?

LORD NEWTON

My Lords, I am afraid I cannot give a date, but I fear it will be some time yet before the full information for which the noble Baroness asks will be available.
