HL Deb 31 January 1961 vol 228 c93
VISCOUNT ALEXANDER OF HILLSOROUGH

My Lords, I beg leave to ask the Question which stands in my name on the Order Paper.

[The Question was as follows:

To ask Her Majesty's Government in view of the increased tendency for amalgamation in the printing industry and in particular in the national Press, whether they now propose to institute immediately an inquiry into the Press and its ownership, including its relations to television broadcasting.]

THE LORD PRESIDENT OF THE COUNCIL AND MINISTER FOR SCIENCE (VISCOUNT HAILSHAM)

My Lords, my right honourable friend the Prime Minister will be answering a number of somewhat similar Questions in another place, and I wonder whether I might be allowed to defer my Answer until a little later in the afternoon.
