HL Deb 11 November 1958 vol 212 cc347-8

2.51 p.m.

LORD TEVIOT

My Lords, I beg to ask the Question which stands in my name on the Order Paper.

[The Question was as follows:

To ask Her Majesty's Government whether the report of the Commissioner appointed to inquire into the site of the new buildings proposed to be erected by the University of St. Andrews has been received by the Secretary of State for Scotland, and, if so, whether it will be made public.]

THE MINISTER OF STATE SCOTTISH OFFICE (LORD FORBES)

My Lords, the report has not yet been made available. My right honourable friend the Secretary of State for Scotland has already undertaken to make the report generally known as soon as it is received.

LORD TEVIOT

My Lords, in view of the fact that the whole of the development of the ancient borough of St. Andrews is at the moment held down by what I shall call "the burden of uncertainty" hanging over their heads, will the noble Lord do all he can to see that this report is issued as soon as possible?

LORD FORBES

My Lords, I am fully aware of the strong feelings on this matter, and I can assure the noble Lord that my right honourable friend will deal with it as soon as possible after he has received the report.
