HL Deb 19 October 1954 vol 189 cc433-4
LORD CALVERLEY

My Lords, before asking the Question which stands in my name, may I ask your Lordships' indulgence whilst I wish the noble and learned Viscount on the Woolsack, whom I have known for many years, long life and the happiest of days in this, your Lordships' Chamber? I beg to ask the Question which sands in my name on the Order Paper.

[The Question was as follows:

To ask Her Majesty's Government what is the amount of money granted from the rates for the upkeep of art galleries arid museums in the borough of Kensington and the City of Westminster respectively.]

THE JOINT PARLIAMENTARY UNDER-ECRETARY OF STATE FOR THE HOME DEPARTMENT (LORD MANCROFT)

My Lords, I understand that the Council of Westminster incur no expenditure on art galleries or museums. The Council of the Royal Borough of Kensington maintains Leighton House at a net cost of about £2,500 a year.
