HL Deb 22 November 1954 vol 189 cc1742-3

Second Schedule, page 32, line 5, leave out from beginning to end of line 9 and insert— ("For subsection (1) there shall be substituted the following subsection:— (1) No person shall sell, or offer or expose for sale, or have in his possession for the purpose of sale or of preparation for sale, for human consumption any part of, or product derived wholly or partly from, an animal which has been, slaughtered in a knacker's yard or of which the carcase has been brought into a knacker's yard."")

LORD CARRINGTON

My Lords, this Amendment modifies Section 19 of the 1938 Food and Drugs Act. The effect is to make it an offence to sell for human consumption not only part of an animal slaughtered in a knacker's yard but also any product derived from any such animal. There have been suggestions in the past that oil and fat from such animals have been sold to fish fryers and the like. I beg to move.

Moved, That this House doth agree with the Commons in the said Amendment.—(Lord Carrington.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.
