HL Deb 22 November 1954 vol 189 cc1692-3

Clause 6, page 6, line 43, at end insert— ("(3) In the last foregoing subsection 'animals' includes poultry.")

LORD CARRINGTON

My Lords, this Amendment enables regulations to be made requiring the inspection of poultry intended for slaughter for sale for human consumption. The definition section (Section 100 of the 1938 Food and Drugs Act) says that "animal" does not include "bird," so that without this Amendment poultry would not be covered by the clause. I beg to move that the House doth agree with the Commons in the said Amendment.

Moved, That this House doth agree with the Commons in the said Amendment.—(Lord Carrington.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.
