Standing Order 98, page 55, line 13, leave out Standing Order 98 and insert—

("First Reading of Private Bills

98.—(1) A Private Bill originating in this House shall not be read a first time earlier than—

  1. (a) the day on which there is laid on the Table a Certificate front the Examiner that Standing Orders have been complied with in respect of the Bill; or
  2. (b) the day on which there is presented to the House a Report from the Standing Orders Committee that Standing Orders have been complied with in respect of the Bill; or
  3. (c) the day on which the House, after considering a Report from the Standing Orders Committee that Standing Orders ought to be dispensed with in respect of the Bill, agrees that the Bill be allowed to proceed;

or later than the seventh sitting day thereafter.

(2) A Private Bill brought from the House of Commons shall be read a first time forthwith.")

Standing Order 99, page 55, line 30, leave out Standing Order 99 and insert—

("Second Reading of Private Bills

99.—(1) The day for which a Private Bill originating in this House is first set down for Second Reading shall not be earlier than the second, or later than the seventh, day on which the House sits for public business after the day of the First Reading thereof.

(2) The day for which a Private Bill brought from the House of Commons is first set down for Second Reading shall not be earlier than—

  1. (a) the day on which there is laid on the Table a Certificate from the Examiner that such Standing Orders as have not been previously inquired into have been complied with in respect of the Bill or that no further Standing Orders are applicable to the Bill; or
  2. 899
  3. (b) the day on which there is presented to the House a Report from the Standing Orders Committee that such Standing Orders as aforesaid have been so complied with; or
  4. (c) the day on which the House, after considering a Report from the Standing Orders Committee that Standing Orders ought to be dispensed with in respect of the Bill, agrees that the Bill be allowed to proceed;

or later than the seventh sitting day thereafter.")

Standing Order 101, page 56, line 36, leave out from ("than") to the end of line 37 and insert ("the tenth day after that on which the Bill was read a first time")

Standing Order 101, page 56, line 38, leave out from the beginning to the end of line 42 and insert— ("(2) Standing Order 201A shall apply to any Petition praying to be heard upon the merits against a Private Bill, other than a Petition required to he presented on or before the Sixth day of February.")

Leave out Standing Order 102 and insert—

("Copies of Petitions

102. A copy of any Petition deposited in the Office of the Clerk of the Parliaments praying to be heard on the merits against, or otherwise relating to, a Private Bill shall, on application and payment by any party interested, be supplied to him by the agent concerned with the Petition not later than the day following that on which the application and payment is received.")
