HL Deb 06 June 1945 vol 136 cc419-20

2.54 p.m.

Read 3a (according to Order).

Clause 36 [Duty of statutory water undertakers to accept guarantees from local authorities]:

THE PARLIAMENTARY UNDER-SECRETARY OF STATE FOR THE HOME DEPARTMENT (THE EARL OF MUNSTER)

My Lords, three Amendments stand in my name on the Paper to-day. Your Lordships will have observed that the first two Amendments to Clause 36 merely have the effect of removing words from one part of subsection (2) to another part of subsection (2). I am advised by Parliamentary Counsel that this makes the reading of the Bill somewhat simpler. I therefore beg to move the first Amendment standing in my name.

Amendment moved— Page 39, line 36, at end insert (" or until the expiration of a period of twelve years, whichever first occurs,".)—The Earl of Munster.)

On Question, Amendment agreed to.

THE EARL OF MUNSTER

The next Amendment is a drafting Amendment. I beg to move.

Amendment moved— Page 39, line 41, leave out from ("area") to ("and") in line 42.—(The Earl of Munster.)

On Question, Amendment agreed to.

First Schedule [Procedure for making Orders, approving agreements and making and confirming by-laws]:

THE EARL OF MUNSTER

The third Amendment, which deals with the First Schedule of the Bill, is to leave out "fishery board or." I am advised that it is unnecessary to include these words as they are already expressly covered by similar words which appear in line 21. I beg to move.

Amendment moved— Page 62, line 24, leave out ("fishery board or").—(The Earl of Munster.)

On Question, Amendment agreed to.

Bill passed, and returned to the Commons.
