HL Deb 25 May 1943 vol 127 cc643-4
LORD WEDGWOOD

My Lords, I desire to ask the first starred question in my name.

[The question was as follows:

To ask His Majesty's Government whether Commissions in the Polish Army in Great Britain are open to Jews, Ruthenes, Bielo-Russians or Lithuanians of Polish Nationality, and, if so, how many of each of these minorities have received commissions.]

VISCOUNT CRANBORNE

I cannot give the noble Lord detailed information on this subject which is the exclusive concern of an independent Allied Government. I am informed, however, that Commissions in the Polish Army are granted on a basis of professional qualification and without regard to the religious faith or racial origin of the Polish national concerned.

LORD WEDGWOOD

Cannot we find out? We pay.
