§ LORD SNELLMy Lords, on behalf of my noble friend the Leader of the House, I beg to move the Motion that stands on the Paper in his name. Your Lordships will, I know, be sorry to learn that the noble Earl, Lord Onslow, has been suffering from strain, and that his medical advisers have insisted upon his taking a rest of at least a fortnight. Your Lordships will be relieved to know that we may anticipate the return of the Lord Chairman completely restored to health 500 in due course. Meanwhile, provision must be made for the carrying out of his duties in his absence. His Majesty's Government are fortunate in being able to recommend to the House the appointment of the noble Lord, Lord Stanmore, who has often previously undertaken these duties in the temporary absence of the Lord Chairman, and who has always done so to the complete saisfaction of your Lordships' House. I beg to move.
§ Moved, That the Lord Stanmore be appointed to take the Chair in all Committees of this House during the temporary absence of the Chairman of Committees.—(Lord Snell.)
§ LORD ADDISONMy Lords, in associating myself and my noble friends with this Motion I should like to add to what the noble Lord said by expressing our sincere hope that the noble Earl the Lord Chairman will soon be restored to health, and that we shall have again his amiable and friendly assistance in all our affairs. In the meantime, we very heartily support this Motion.
