HL Deb 28 September 1939 vol 114 cc1209-10
THE LORD PRESIDENT OF THE COUNCIL (EARL STANHOPE)

My Lords, in addition to the business which appears on the Paper for next Tuesday, which is the Second Reading of three Bills—I understand my noble and learned friend will probably also put down the Second Reading of the two Bills which he has just asked your Lordships to read a first time—and a Motion by Lord Strabolgi with regard to the British cinematograph film industry, I understand that a statement will be available from His Majesty's Government, and the Leader of the Opposition has been good enough to say that he will put down a Motion on the Paper asking for that statement to be made. It will therefore come after the Second Readings of the Bills on the Paper and Lord Strabolgi's Motion. I therefore suggest that we meet at three o'clock, and the statement will come at about four o'clock, or a little after. The Bishop of Winchester has also put down a Motion with regard to juvenile welfare, which may also lead to a debate, and so we may have a fairly long sitting for that day. We shall meet again on Wednesday, if noble Lords wish to debate the statement, and possibly also on Thursday to take the Third Readings of the Bills which we shall read a second time on Tuesday. The other place, I understand, meets on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and possibly on Friday of next week, but that is not yet settled.
