HL Deb 29 July 1931 vol 81 c1288

Amendments reported (according to Order).

Clause 1 [Special Government contributions to housing expenses of certain rural district councils]:

LORD MARLEY

My Lords, there is a small Amendment to be made. It is a manuscript Amendment, copies of which I understand have been circulated. If they are not in the hands of all your Lordships, I am very sorry, but it is purely a drafting Amendment. If your Lordships will turn to page 2 of the Bill, you will see that in Clause 1 (3) the concluding words of paragraph (b) are "such persons as are mentioned in the preceding subsection." A subsection was put in during the discussion on the Bill and the words "preceding subsection" really mean the subsection before that. The Amendment I propose is that the paragraph should end with the words "mentioned in subsection (1) of this section." I hope that explanation will induce your Lordships to accept the Amendment at this stage.

Amendment moved— Clause 1, page 2, line 19, leave out ("the preceding ") and in line 21 at end add ("(1) of this section").—(Lord Marley.)

On Question, Amendment agreed to.

LORD MARLEY

Standing Order No. XXXIX having been suspended, I shall be very glad if I might take this Bill through the remaining stages. I beg to move that it be read a third time.

Moved, That the Bill be now read 3a.—(Lord Marley.)

On Question, Bill read 3a, with the Amendments, and passed, and returned to the Commons.
