HL Deb 28 June 1922 vol 51 cc94-6
THE MARQUESS OF LINCOLNSHIRE

My Lords, before the House adjourns, I should like to ask the noble Earl, who is leading the House, whether he is able to furnish any fresh information about the reported disturbances that are said to be going on in Dublin.

THE EARL OF CRAWFORD

My Lords, I am sorry to say that I can give the noble Marquess practically no information, beyond what has appeared in the newspaper messages which are reaching London. So far as the Government knows, early this morning the forces of the Provisional Government attacked the insurgent bands who are now occupying the Four Courts in Dublin. I can really add nothing to the information which is already public property, except to say that the Provisional Government is solely responsible for the operations, and that, up to now, they have made no communication to His Majesty's Government upon the subject, having declined all assistance from Imperial sources, except in so far as some equipment is concerned. The fighting is still in progress, and no information has come through as to the casualties on either side. I am afraid that is all I can tell the noble Marquess.

THE MARQUESS OF LINCOLNSHIRE

Is communication still open between Dublin and this country?

THE EARL OF CRAWFORD

From the messages that are coming in, I think it is quite clear that the telegraph is still working.

House adjourned at half past five o'clock.
