HL Deb 03 August 1922 vol 51 cc1122-3
LORD TEYNHAM

My Lords, I beg to ask His Majesty's Government whether the London County Council have approached them with regard to the efforts made by certain persons to alter the rule of the footpath, asking them at the same time to put an end to the confusion caused thereby; and, if so, what reply has been made.

THE EARL OF CRAWFORD

My Lords, the London County Council has written to the Ministry of Transport stating that they have been approached by the (Safety First Council, but that they consider it undesirable to take any steps unless there was uniform action throughout the country. They ask if the Ministry of Transport proposed to take any steps. The reply of the Ministry of Transport, which was sent yesterday, is to the effect that they have placed the question before the Association of Local Authorities with the object of obtaining their views. At present they do not propose to take any further action.
