HL Deb 06 June 1918 vol 30 c130

Order of the Day for the Second Reading read.

VISCOUNT SANDHURST

My Lords, this is a Bill similar to many which have passed your Lordships' House and many also to which I have asked your Lordships to give a Second Reading. It is promoted by the Charity Commissioners under powers conferred by Section 54 of the Charitable Trusts Act, 1853, and it is necessary for a Bill to be promoted by them and passed to enable them to provide a scheme at the request of certain congregations to widen their doctrine. This Bill is to promote a scheme for that purpose by the congregation of the parish of Westgate-on-Sea. The object is to appoint as trustee the incorporated body known as the Congregational Union of England and Wales. No objection to the scheme has been raised or suggestion made by any of the congregation, that body being known as the Pædobaptists. I beg to move that the Bill be read a second time.

Moved, That the Bill be now read 2a.—(Viscount Sandhurst.)

On Question, Bill read 2a, and committed to a Committee of the Whole House.
