HL Deb 25 January 1916 vol 20 c1023

[SECOND READING.]

Order of the Day for the Second Reading read.

THE CIVIL LORD OF THE ADMIRALTY (THE DUKE OF DEVONSHIRE)

My Lords, at this late hour it will hardly be necessary for me to refer to the details of this Bill, the object of which is to amend the Customs (War Powers) Acts, 1915; but I am quite prepared to answer any question that may be raised upon its provisions. The five clauses in the Bill deal with certain matters which have arisen during the course of the war and in connection with which it has been found necessary to amend the previous Acts. I beg to move.

Moved, That the Bill be now read 2a.—(The Duke of Devonshire.)

On Question, Bill read 2a, and committed to a Committee of the Whole House Tomorrow.
