HL Deb 05 April 1916 vol 21 cc625-6

[SECOND READING.]

Order of the Day for the Second Reading read.

LORD SANDHURST

My Lords, in moving that this Bill be read a second time I have only to mention two small amendments of the Army Act which the Bill effects. They are necessary owing to the Presidential Army system in India having been abolished, in consequence of which it is proposed to eliminate the references to the Governors of Presidencies. The amendments effected by this Bill are as follow: In paragraph (d) of subsection (1) of Section 163 of the Army Act which relates to evidence, the words "or the Governor of any Presidency in India" are omitted; and in paragraph (27) of Section 190 of the Act the words "as respects any Presidency in India means the Governor in Council of the Presidency and" are also omitted. I beg to move.

Moved, That the Bill be now read 2a.—(Lord Sandhurst.)

On Question, Bill read 2a.

Committee negatived, and Bill to be read 3a on Tuesday next.
